The reason for looking at these two bands is because they are two very stereotypical indie bands and very popular with a large range of the audience. After looking at many songs done by the Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks we came up with many ideas and this is where some of our ideas came from.
what inspired me and my group to do the type of video we did is because we all like listening to the type of genre we were working on so that gave us more motivation to do it because we were a lot more interested in making the video fit in with the genre we were trying to get across to the audience.
The left picture is a 'real' digipack' and on the right is my final digipack and used before starting to film my final media product. As you can see there are some similarities of the two because i wanted my product to look at professional as i could make it. One similarity is that there are no very bright colour in either of them and were there is colour it is faded. Another thing that is very similar in both digipacks are the pictures themselves, The characters in the pictures are very lively or doing anything over the top, They are very simple and straightforward shots. The reason i did this is because is shows that the indie lifestyle is very laid back and relaxing and a lot of the time they are chilled and calm.
Before even starting the filming for our music video we asked the target audience many questions on what they think of our research and planning and how well does it suit the genre we are looking at. We did this by setting up a online group on 'www.facebook.com', this was very helpful as there are many friends that use the website. One of there questions we asked was...
Question...
' Does the Production work target the audience we wanted?'
Answer ...
' Yes, i feel the indie theme is portrayed well. Also the black and white editing you used looks good. The costume and people used go with the target audience and are a typical indie group which your target audience would approve of.'
This quote shows that the audience understood the conventions of the genre we were going to use.
Looking at our final product and then comparing that to a 'real' music video it is very clear that there are many differences. I think there are a few reasons for this the first reason being is that we are limited to the amount of technology that is available in the college compared to the amount that a 'real' product would have. Also although me and my group were planning on a low-fi video anyway but the budget is also a huge reason to why the videos are different because the 'real' product would have a bigger budget meaning they can be a lot more creative are not worry about cost but me and my group had no budget.
The theorist i wanted to keep my attention on was Steve Neale and his theory way 'Audience take pleasure from genre because of instances of repetition and difference' .

Ok, this is fine so far. You could use the Neale quote from the handout that states that audiences get pleasure from 'repetition of difference' - that is, they want generic conventions so that they no what to expect, but they also want to see variations within these conventions so that they are able to differentiate between products and don't get bored with seeing generic texts.
